New food for the Girls!

Recipe for first batch of home made food.

I am now making my own dog food for my pug dogs Mandi and Meika. I developed this recipe and they liked it very much. Next time I make it I will add another cup of fish. I also made the same version but with turkey but they seemed to like it better with fish. They are allergic to corn, soy and wheat so I did not add any of those.

Mandi and Meika's new food
2 cups boiled white fish (orange Roughy) - it was frozen and I bought it for about 3 bucks at Trader Joe's
2 diced big carrots with skin on - boiled but not too mushy
1 small diced Fuji apple - boiled but not too mushy
1 pound diced Asparagus - boiled but not too mushy
1 1/2 Sweet potatoes with skin on - boiled
1 Avocado - 5 for $4.00 at Trader Joe's You can also find frozen ones cheap their too!
1 cup instant brown rice
1 can garbanzo beans- drained and mashed- .60cents at Safeway
1/4 cup Flax seeds- boiled with the instant rice (add a bit more H20) - Cheap when you buy in bulk
4 table spoons olive oil
I blended all of the veggies up in the food processor (just a little not to a paste) and then stirred it together with the mashed garbanzo beans, fish, rice and flax seeds.
I also give the girls 1/4 teaspoon of solid gold sea meal for the coat http://www.solidgoldhealth.com/products/showproduct.php?id=36&code=591
and
a serving of Glucosamine
They liked it very much. It took me about 45 min to make the food and clean up the mess. This should be enough for a week or so (I feed them each one cup each a day). I had to put it into little containers and froze the ones that will not be eaten in the next 2 days. The food has no preservatives so it could go bad fast.
Next time I will add some beets or blueberry's for vitamins. I am also going to use some frozen green beans instead of asparagus. I plan to switch the recipe every time I make the food. I did not gradually take them off of the can food like the pet food companies recommend and they did not have any problems at all. I think that all of the commercial pet foods have chemicals that make switching the foods hard on the dogs.

The canned food smell makes my stomach turn but this food does not smell at all!
